The history of Palazzo Margherita starts at the end of the 1800s when the present building was constructed as a hotel. The 4th of May 1897 saw the official opening of the Hotel Margherita, the first hostel in that small fishing village that had the good fortune to be situated exactly half way between Sorrento and Amalfi, already in those days renowned tourist haunts.
In its rooms overlooking the village and Li Galli isles, Hotel Margherita accommodated illustrious personalities from every corner of the globe. Famous artists, eminent politicians, wealthy industrialists and pleasure-loving nobles have stayed here, leaving pleasant testimony of their holiday. Many have returned over the years, attracted by the charm of the village and the comfort of the hotel.
Situated in a pleasant position along the Amalfi coast, l’Hotel Margherita was a refuge during the cold wet winters for the coach travellers along the State Road 163, while during the hot Mediterranean summers, the hotel and its restaurant was a compulsory stopover for weary tourists and for the cyclists during the Giro d’Italia.
In 2000, this majestic palazzo was restored and converted into seven comfortable apartments that recall the history of one of the most charming locations in the Mediterranean. Today this delightful location, 2013 restyled and now available to tourists as “Palazzo Margherita”, is the ideal place to enjoy the dreamy atmosphere of Positano, with its splendid sea, its fabulous landscape and characteristic little streets full of boutiques and typical little restaurants.
