The Story Behind the Castle
The Chateau des Avenieres was built by Mary Wallace Schillito, an American born in 1876 in Ohio. She built the castle to honor her sister, with whom she had lived in Paris for many years until she died unexpectedly. The architecture was influenced largely by Assan Faride Dina, Mary’s first husband. The chapel in particular is a fascinating architectural masterpiece, in which Dina attempted to combine elements out of all the universalistic religions, mixing Egyptian Tarot with Jewish Kabbalah and the Zodiac.

The Rooms of the Castle Hotel
The rooms of the castle hotel Chateau des Avenieres each have their own individual character. The decoration, layout, furnishings – it all gives the rooms an unmistakable ambience. The rooms’ names may hint at some of the design ideas. The room “Afrique” is dominated by African elements, as you might expect, and in the “Blue Room” blue tones are the definite theme.
