Arriving at Palazzo Margherita and looking out from the splendid terraces to enjoy all the charm and magic that Positano offers is a unique, unforgettable experience: you discover the Amalfi Coast from a privileged observation point and feel the atmosphere of a landscape that seems to have fallen out of a late nineteenth century painting. The history of Palazzo Margherita starts at the end of the 1800s when the present building was constructed as a hotel. The 4th of May 1897 saw the official opening of the Hotel Margherita, the first hostel in that small fishing village that had the good fortune to be situated exactly half way between Sorrento and Amalfi, already in those days renowned tourist haunts.
In its rooms overlooking the village and Li Galli isles, Hotel Margherita accommodated illustrious personalities from every corner of the globe. Famous artists, eminent politicians, wealthy industrialists and pleasure-loving nobles have stayed here, leaving pleasant testimony of their holiday. Many have returned over the years, attracted by the charm of the village and the comfort of the hotel.
